The KKK klan began in the wake of the civil war. The klan was originally supposed to be a non-violent was not. The klan viewed violence and killings of African Americans as justifiable. "The only salvation for white people is to join the klan (Mr.Jones)."

Mr.Jones had grown up near Salisbury, Nc. He was in the army but was discharged for not greeting the black officer. His frustration lead to continuing the klan's mission. He was eventually chosen as the grand dragon. A grand dragon is the leader of the whole klan. He planned to grow the klan by the thousands. He held walks down the sidewalks in town with his whole klan. He stated "we have the same right to demonstrate as those n@#$@#." With the walks they did, they also did secret events only for whites.

Many of the events held by the klan were seen as family events to the white individuals. The events held included music, food, petting zoos. By the end of these events they concluded with the burning of a huge cross dosed in gasoline and a church song in the background.
