The American Anti-Slavery society was founded in New York City in December of 1833. The Society was part of a religious revival that believed that slavery was a sin and that all slave owners were now sinning and would go to hell for there actions. The society also distributed Anti-Slavery journals along with a petition to congress to end slavery for good.
This society also advocated for women's right's, temperance movement and prison reforms.
This was the largest and the most influential group of this time. One of the most noticeable members was William Lloyd Garrison, he was also an Anti-Slavery advocate and was well known for his
newspaper (the Liberator).
